■ Glare、shadow
Someone works continuously on terms that lighting dimly for a long time that not only eyes
will be made tired but also working efficiency will bereduced. But the light quantity is not
limited at sufficient light source and brightness; even with sufficient light source and
brightness,we can't saythe lamp is a good lighting either. It will be felt dazzling as the light
source directly shines into the eye inside. Excessively bright with the platform-like lighting
will cause the object short of three-dimensional effects, so it's very essential to bring
light source quality under consideration.
■ Light color、the visibility of color
Making the artificial light source to be closer to the light colors and the lighting effects
of natural light, and getting perfect natural reappearances from the photos being taken,
both of them are the important condition of weighing light source quality.
■Efficiency, service life of lamp
Even with proper lighting, but large power loss, low lighting effects, short-lived, this can't
be said as a fine lighting.The good light source should have such features as light color,
the visibility of color andefficiency, service life, etc economical efficiency as a whole.
※ Light color of light source (color temperature)
■ Light color and color temperature
There is a little red and little blue in the light color of light source. And there is a tiny di
fference as the sights from different person. Color temperature is ordinary expressed
by the physical objective data as the concept of light color.
■ Color Temperature

The color temperature is expressed by K(Calvin).The lower the color temperatureis, the

redder the light color becomes, and the higher the color temperature is, the bluer the
light color is. For example, the color temper-ature of sunlight in bright daytime is high, so
the light color approaches to white. If the color temperatureimproves to above 7000K
further, the light color beginsto take blue. On the contrary, the color temperature after
sunrise or before sunset is low, under 2300K, the light color begins red.
 
■ Influence of the color temperature
 

The color temperature is influencing the atmosphere of the space. The lighting environment

of the low color temperature gives people the warmfeeling; The lighting environment of the
high color temperature gives people the cool feeling.In illuminant environment of different
color temperature,the color temperature is influencing the people's feeling to
surrounding environment color. For instance, under the red light source, people can't
often see red perfectly.

※ Color rendering capability
■ Color rendering capability

As to the various kinds of the light source, the targets will be seen with different color.

The light source nature can influence the visibility of color which is called the color ren
dering capability, generally speaking, the better color rendering capability, the better
visibility of color; the worse color rendering capability, the worse visibility of color; the
lamp with bad color rendering capability has bad visibility of color.
 
■ Color rendering capability and spectral distribution
This depends on how much light energy contained in light sourceFrom blue and purple to
red, namely the so-called spectral distri-bution. If this light energy contained is the same,
then we think that the visibility of color is the same with visibility of natural light color,
(good fidelity).
 
■ The concept of average color rendering appraisement index (Ra)

Showing color rendering capability degree of light source, the representative index of

visibility of the color for one degree of a good and bad ones is called average color ren
dering appraisement index (Ra).
 
■ The color rendering capability and efficiency of lamp

Generally speaking, the more yellowish green light energy contains the higher efficiency

of lamp shines. The light source with the sameenergy from blue-purple to red light has good
color rendering, buthas low shining efficiency. As the following picture shows, the
spectral distribution of ordinary sunshine fluorescent lamp with highefficiency and bad
color rendering capability as well as high color renderingcapability fluorescent lamp with
good color rendering capability and relative lower efficiency.
 
■ The expression of average color rendering appraisement index (Ra):

When the color being seen under the some light source is the same with that under

standard light source, the average color rendering appraisement index of this lamp (Ra) is
set as 100. However, Ra onlyshows the index of color reproduces fidelity, and does not
express the quality of color.Therefore, even Ra is low sometimes, the color difference e
merged, and very good color willalso be seen. As people's face, even sometimes there is a
little color difference, and others will feel unnatural or unhealthy from his appearance.
The low average color rendering appraisementindex Ra does not mean that the practical
value of this kind oflamp is low. Generally, the average color rendering appraisement index
is above Ra80, which can meet the requirements of higher color visibility.
 
■ Color rendering capability and ideal color visibility
The color visibility (Color rendering capability) differs with the difference of spectral
distribution of light source. There is the quantitative evaluationmethod of carrying on
color rendering capability:he evaluation method of fidelity of color visibilityThis method is
quantitative evaluation forthe fidelity of reproduced colors through the comparison
between object lamp and standard light, and be expressed by the previous mentioned value
of average color rendering appraisement index Ra. In addition, except that the evaluation for
color visibility fidelity, recently the evaluation method of color visibility quality is under
research. This method is: the color skew will be produced in the comparison between object
lamp and standard light.For example, some lamps fidelity of colors visibility is not so good,
but the red or green and complexion can be seen ideally and distinctly. The valu-ation for
the quality of color visibility is one of special color rendering properties of light source.
But until now,it is still not the confirmed method For standardization and to be the topic
for research in future.
■ The uses of the color rendering capability and lamp
According to the using field and applications of the lamp,what kind of color rendering
capability of lamp is suitable, CIE (International Commission on Illumination) stipulatescertain
norms and following forms provides the scope of application of the lamp to the aver age
color rendering ppraisement index Ra.
